Role Overrides in CharacterStrong

With CharacterStrong, you have the flexibility to manually override user roles that are imported via your selected rostering method. While your Student Information System (SIS) remains the primary source of truth for user roles, this override feature provides a reliable backup when immediate SIS updates are not feasible.

How Roles Transfer into CharacterStrong

Typically, user roles are assigned automatically based on your roster import from the SIS or rostering files. However, manual overrides are available for those uncommon scenarios when a change is needed outside your regular updates.

When to Use a Manual Role Override

  • Default: Always use the SIS-rostered role when it accurately reflects the user’s responsibilities.

  • Override: Use the manual role override if a role is not accurately represented in CharacterStrong and SIS data is outdated or unavailable.

How to Request a Role Override
  1. Contact Support: Email support@characterstrong.com with:
    • The list of users who need a role change
      1. Name
      2. Email
    • The specific roles to be assigned
      1. District Lead
      2. School Lead
      3. Educator
    • Any relevant titles for bulk updates (ex: change all aides at Kindness Elementary to School Leads)
  2. Processing Time: The CharacterStrong support team will update these roles within 24 business hours.
  3. Track Updates: You can view all role override updates in the Rostering section within your School Management tab.

Please note: While you will be able to view the overrides as soon as the updates are made, the override will not take effect until after the next overnight sync.
