How is Time Spent Tracked?

How Is Time Tracked in CharacterStrong?

We’ve updated how Time Spent is tracked on our platform to be more accurate and reflective of real engagement. Below, you'll find clear answers to common questions around how time is tracked.

⭐ How is time tracked?

  • The timer starts when you load a page on CharacterStrong.

  • It stops after 45 minutes, or earlier if you:

    • Leave the page

    • Reload the page

    • Close the tab or browser

⭐ Is time tracked based on the window being viewed?

Yes. The timer pauses if the CharacterStrong tab is not visible — for example, if you:

  • Switch to another browser tab

  • Minimize the window

  • Open another app

The timer only runs when the CharacterStrong tab is actively being viewed.

⭐ What if someone has the page open but isn’t viewing it?

If the CharacterStrong tab is open but not actively visible (e.g., it’s in the background), time tracking pauses.

Time is only counted when the page is actively in view.

⭐ Could something else be affecting time tracking?

Yes — a few common things to check:

  • Multiple Windows: If a user has more than one CharacterStrong window open, time is tracked in all of them at the same time (up to 45 minutes per window).

  • Ad Blockers: These can interfere with time tracking. Try whitelisting characterstrong.com if issues arise.

  • Embedded Content: Watching a video inside CharacterStrong counts. Watching it on YouTube’s site does not.

  • Reloading Pages: Reloading stops the current timer and starts a new session.
