Top Things to Know Before Rostering with ClassLink at CharacterStrong
Before moving forward with rostering, please review the following key points to ensure a smooth integration process with CharacterStrong via ClassLink.
- Substitute Teacher Access
To grant substitutes access to CharacterStrong, you can create a manual record within ClassLink’s Roster Server.

3. Classes in CharacterStrong
- ClassLink classes are brought into CharacterStrong to track lesson delivery.
- Only users with assigned classes in ClassLink will have classes created in CharacterStrong.
- Staff and Admin users do not have sections, and therefore, classes are not automatically created in the app. However, they can create their own classes.
📣 Ensure your ClassLink data has a grade level associated with each class. Classes without a defined grade level in ClassLink will not be brought into CharacterStrong.

4. Supported Grade Levels
CharacterStrong supports the following grade levels:
- PreKindergarten
- Transitional Kindergarten
- Kindergarten
- Grades 1–12
📣 Ensure your data reflects only these grade levels for a successful sync. Students assigned to unsupported grade levels cannot be rostered into CharacterStrong.
5. Required Data for Rostering
We recommend using Rule-Based Permissions to only share data for classes that will be using CharacterStrong. Additionally, to properly roster users into CharacterStrong, your ClassLink sync must include:
- Orgs
- Users
- Classes - Please ensure that each class has an assigned grade level
- Courses
- Enrollments
- Academic Sessions
Missing any of the above will result in incomplete access or class creation.
6. School Assignment Requirements
All users must have at least one school assigned to them in ClassLink in order to access CharacterStrong.
- Exception: District Administrators can access CharacterStrong without a school assignment, as their role provides district-wide access.
7. Multi-Site User Access
When users are assigned to multiple buildings in ClassLink:
- Our system will automatically recognize this and assign the user at the district level.
- From there, they will have access to all the schools they are connected to.
8. ClassLink Password Locker
We are working to fully support SSO, but currently, the ClassLink Password Locker can be used to safely store login credentials.
First-Time CharacterStrong Users:

- Select “Forgot Password”

- Log in to ClassLink using your school email and new password
- Set up a Password Locker to store your credentials
- Moving forward, the Password Locker will automatically enter your CharacterStrong credentials
